Who is MAYO?
As a child I grew up in South Florida where I had the privilege of being raised by a very supportive family.
My art ventures began in childhood, where my parents saw my potential and love for creating and pushed me into art classes.
A few years down the road, I successfully auditioned for and attended Bak Middle School of the Arts in 2011 where I majored in Visual Arts.
Here, still at a young age, I began to be trained professionally, and would further go on to successfully audition and attend Alexander Dreyfoos School of the Arts in 2014, again, majoring in Visual Arts .
As my skills grew, I would rise to be one of the top students in my class for my major, as well as being acclaimed by my teachers.
I would win several prestigious scholarships and awards before graduating in 2017.
A few months later I found myself moving to Manhattan to attend The School of Visual arts (SVA) where I majored in Cartooning. For the next two years I continued to narrow in on my sequential work, as well as shining through as one of the top students in my class once again.
In a breakthrough at the end of my Sophomore year in 2019, I ultimately decided that it would be more logical to permanently leave SVA to pursue my own artistic goals outside of an institutional environment.
I am currently an independent artist and freelancer residing in Brooklyn.
I continue to create art on a daily basis, I am constantly working on projects, and pride myself in my visual development work.
